Finding Your Line
While Steve Prefontaine was very much at home on the track, it’s good to think of him in the natural setting of his native oregon, the long-distance runner finding his line on a wooded site. The experience of the memorial is primarily one of movement - through a spine of open enfilade galleries that hold informal placement of artifacts brought by the public - and then one of rememberance, contemplation, and focus in one of three pavillions that provide two-way visual connections to the city and the university campus. The main pavilion includes limited display space for curated objects, digital display for catalogued objects that are physically donated after digital capture, and pre-race gathering space fot local athletes and track programs.
